Its collection includes over 100,000 books, maps, prints, slides, old parish registers, census returns and newspaper cuttings relating to the history, topography and social life of the City of Edinburgh. Edinburgh Room holds a large collection of images of Edinburgh (24,500 prints, photographs, sketches and watercolours) including photographs from 1840's to present day. RCAHMS is the principal source of collections for Scotland's archaeology, buildings and maritime heritage. There are several million items in the collections comprising photographs, drawings, manuscripts, aerial photographs and other visual and documentary material. In addition, the Air Photographs Collection contains over one million aerial photographs covering the whole of Scotland, dating from the 1940s to the present day. The RCAHMS website gives access to several searchable databases, providing information on architectural, archaeological and maritime sites throughout Scotland. |
